The new stadium was opened at the start of the 2005-06 season with a 1-0 win over Tranmere Rovers. Following this Swansea made it to the playoffs twice before finally gaining promotion to the Championship in 2008.
Manager Brendan Rodgers developed the ‘Swansea style’ of skilled passing possession. After a thrilling 2011 Playo semi- final against Nottingham Forest, drama once gain gripped Swansea fans, as they travelled to Wembley for the final against Reading. The emotional match saw the Swans nearly let a 3-0 lead slip, only to triumph 4-2. Rogers had taken the Swans to the ultimate pinnacle of the Premier League.
The centenary season was spent in the Premier League. The Swans did fantastically, with notable victories over Arsenal and Manchester City being particular highlights.
At the end of the Swans’ first century, the fans have carried the club through thick and thin. The team’s current position is a reward for all the difficult times. If the club’s fortunes dip again, the fans will be there to make sure they survive for another hundred years.
